Bethany Griffin continues the journey of Araby Worth in Dance of the Red Death—the sequel to her teen novel Masque of the Red Death.
In Dance of the Red Death, Araby’s world is in shambles—betrayal, death, disease, and evil forces surround her. She has no one to trust. But she finds herself and discovers that she will fight for the people she loves, and for her city.
Her revenge will take place at the menacing masked ball, though it could destroy her and everyone she loves…or it could turn her into a hero.
With a nod to Edgar Allan Poe, Bethany Griffin concludes her tragic and mysterious Red Death series with a heroine that young adult readers will never forget.

Dance of the Red Death is a riveting, dark tale of a city infused with a killer disease and tyrant leaders. There's nothing more needed other than those two contents to make a novel so dark, you'll always feel gloomy when reading it. I did.

The book starts where Masque of the Red Death ended. Red Death is a second contagion unleashed in their city, and in the first book it wasn't yet discovered until later on. So Death of the RD began with so many problems at hand: 2 death viruses/diseases, 2 masochistic and lunatic leaders, both brothers, and there's one who wants to save the city. Araby, the girl whom we see the story from, is the scientist's daughter. I say "the scientist", because he is the one who created this disease. Oh! Both disease. Besides fighting off the tyrants and finding cures, Araby is torn between two lovers. The first is Will, who originally made her heart feel hope to live but then betrayed her..the second is Elliott, the leader who wants to save the city, and at first has a fake rel'n with her but it is now turning into something real. Both guys love her, and despite the darkness the story cloaks us in, this romance spices up the story and makes it all the more interesting. And of course I had to side with the more uhm dangerous? or bad boy? Though both boys exude bad boy attitudes and though they are described to be very different with each other, I really liked Elliott. Ugh, i really hate it when I pick up the wrong team even if I know it’s the wrong team. Sigh. But honestly, Will is the kinder but tough one among the two of them, and I guess he is the one Araby needs. Elliott can be mine (hahahah!).

The title really lived up to the novel. Truly, the Red death is dancing, and dancing with it are the fates of all the people living in the city. I like how the city has no name, and that in this fictional dark world, we feel what it feels to be trapped and depressed. Okay, I just realized how sad that statement is. But anyway, if you like an adventure that will not take you around the world instead trap you in a claustrophobic city, this book series is perfect for you! In its haunting and agreeably right conclusion, Bethany Griffin takes us where steampunk meets edgar allan poe's remake of the red death. Ironically, it was a sweet ending. Just wanna say that the road towards the end is a blur of gloomy but spine-tingling series of events. I just feel overwhelmed now. Thanks to the author for creating such a great piece! And it helps that the cover is lovely and the pages are styled to have that "old and torn" look, and appreciated by many friends and my mom who investigated what I was reading:)
