Elizabeth Richards’ Phoenix Blog tour [excerpt+giveaway]

Hi guys! Another blog tour stop here on the blog today. But this is kind of special from the past blog tours I hosted on the blog, since this one involves fellow Filipino bloggers! I am so thrilled to be part of this community and am happy that it literally exists.

The past few months, I’ve been interacting with a lot of fellow Filipina book bloggers on twitter and emails and even in real life and its such a blast and I feel like we’ve been friends all my life. Lols. that’s how books link us all together. Sappy! haha.

So, anyway, today, I’m supposed to post my book review of Phoenix, Elizabeth Richards’ second installment of the Black City series. But! I haven’t finished it yet, so I’ll post an excerpt instead! (I’ll just post my review on a separate post few days from now)

There’s an INTERNATIONAL giveaway on the tour too! Plus, also feel free to check out the different special posts each tour host have on their blogs for the tour! They’re pretty cool. :)
First, the book’s blurb:

No fear. No power.
PHOENIX
The boy who rose from the ashes…

ISBN: 978-0-399-15944-2
Hardback release: June 4, 2013
Available in ebook format.

Engaged to be married, Ash and Natalie are just starting to build a life together when things in the United Sentry States go from bad to worse. Ash and Natalie find themselves at the center of turmoil when dictator Purian Rose threatens Natalie’s life unless Ash Votes in favor of Rose’s Law—a law that will send all Darklings and other dissenters to a  deadly concentration camp known as the Tenth.
When Ash can’t bring himself to trade Natalie’s life for those of millions of Darklings, her fate is sealed. Enter Elijah Theroux, the handsome Bastet boy Natalie once saved from her mother’s labs, where he’d been experimented on and tortured. It was his venom the Sentry used to create the lethal Golden Haze, the heart of the conspiracy that lead to Black City’s uprising and Ash’s rebirth as Phoenix, the face of the rebellion. Elijah is back and Ash doesn’t like him: it’s clear he’s taken with Natalie, and Ash fears she may have feelings for him as well. But Elijah also may have the answer to taking down Purian Rose for good—a powerful weapon called the Ora. Ash, Natalie and Elijah just have to escape Black City undetected to find it. But fleeing the city and finding this weapon are easier said than done, and the quest could tear Ash and Natalie apart, even pushing them into the arms of others.
This  enthralling sequel to Black City is just as absorbing, delicious and steamy as the first book, leaving readers hungry for the series conclusion.

I have two excerpts for you guys. The first one is from the romantic side of the novel. And the second one is the thrilling and quite opposite of the first excerpt :)
Enjoy!

Excerpt from PHOENIX (A Black City Novel)

“The birthday girl goes first,” Ash says, kissing my cheek.I glance up at him and my heart squeezes. A thought glimmers in his smoldering eyes. He lowers his long lashes, like he’s trying to hide it from me. I don’t have much time to analyze it, as my attention is dragged back toward the game.As the wheel spins, I quickly lift the lid off one of the pots. Inside is a gleaming coin. Yes! People ooh and ahhh.“Lady Fortune’s clearly on your side tonight,” Ash whispers in my ear, passing me the coin. It’s impossible to concentrate when he’s so close by, his cool breath spilling over me, delicious, intoxicating. Yearning unfurls inside me, a flower blooming in winter. Memories of our time together this morning fill my mind, and I touch my glowing cheeks, willing them to cool down.  - from PHOENIX, pages 35-36

Excerpt from PHOENIX (A Black City Novel)

The sound of hooves startles me out of my thoughts. I whip around. Two black horses canter toward me, their footsteps stirring up the ash on the cobblestones. They’re pulling a closed-top carriage, which bobs up and down on the uneven road. I flatten my back against the concrete wall before the vehicle runs me over. It draws to a halt, and a moment later, the door swings open and Sebastian Eden steps out. He’s dressed in a new version of the Tracker uniform: a black flat cap with a rose emblem on the front, a fitted black military coatee, tight black slacks and matching leather jackboots. With his shaved head, the overall look is more severe than the stylish red-and-black uniform from a few months ago. Pinned to his chest is a rose-shaped silver medal, indicating his high rank in the Tracker squad. His green eyes flash with contempt, an expression I know is mirrored on my own face. Sebastian used to be Natalie’s bodyguard and boyfriend, and a couple of months ago, he tried to rape her. We got into a fight about it, and it was this incident that sparked the riot that got Gregory Thompson killed and me subsequently arrested and convicted of his murder.“Get in,” he orders.I laugh. “Yeah, like I’m going to do that.”His upper lip twitches, his eyes flicking toward the vehicle. I catch a glimpse of a shadowy figure inside, and the hairs on the back of my neck prickle.                                                                                                                                   -from PHOENIX, page 15
