Fate isn’t something to mess with… and now, neither is Alex.
Alex has always feared two things: losing herself in the Awakening and being placed on the Elixir. But love has always been stronger than Fate, and Aiden St. Delphi is willing to make war on the gods—and Alex herself—to bring her back.
The gods have killed thousands and could destroy entire cities in their quest to stop Seth from taking Alex’s power and becoming the all-powerful God Killer. But breaking Alex’s connection to Seth isn’t the only problem. There are a few pesky little loopholes in the whole “an Apollyon can’t be killed” theory, and the only person who might know how to stop the destruction has been dead for centuries.
Finding their way past the barriers that guard the Underworld, searching for one soul among countless millions, and then somehow returning will be hard enough. Alex might be able to keep Seth from becoming the God Killer… or she might become the God Killer herself.
My Thoughts:
Oh wow. I'm so darned exhausted after reading all those pages.I am pulled by sleep right now......good stuff! My gosh, I seriously can't wait for Sentinel! Jennifer just has that quality of being able to gear up all those energy-full of thrilling adrenaline-packed scenes. SERIOUSLY you guys, this book is so full of it. You know how irritating other YA series tends to be, when the story just feels so dragged, and you can really feel the story stretched and many lingering moments with nothing happening? Well, Apollyon isn’t one of those, or this series in general. I love how every minute, every page counts. The tension is very palpable in Apollyon. You can really feel the end (of the book) is coming as the events that are happening are so damn intense!
I’m gonna make this comparison. As the birth delivery of a child comes to a close, the labor pains the mother feels intensifies and the frequency increases as the gap in between labor decreases. Same as goes with Apollyon. Action after fights after action happen all the time, and each closer to each other, and each more gruesome and deadly than the previous one. I admit at first I was lagging in reading Apollyon. I actually finished so many books in between. It wasn’t boring or anything, but I think my internal whatever felt like I had to savor each page. And savor I did. If I could lick the paper maybe I would’ve. or probably not, but you get the idea.
The relationship between Alex and Aiden is just so adorable and I feel like they are an old married couple at times. I actually didn’t like them as a couple in the past three books, I mean I was okay with them. But in Apollyon, it’s like a switch came on. I’m a fan of them. like together. :)
Alex’s snarkiness also made up the fun and entertaining moments in the book. She just had this way of saying both stupid and smart remarks in the cutest way. And Aiden, he turned into something else in here. I mean, he is still the same old Aiden- serious, protective and strict. But! he softened and joked at times already. It was unnerving and.. Anyway! Even if Alex and Seth did not have a physical, for reals interaction, but Seth was still present in the book all the time. Then there are the other supporting characters who made the book so much more interesting.
Maybe it’s the story, or maybe it’s the plot twists and actions. OR it could be just because of the author Jennifer Armentrout. She makes such good stories, and her writing is funny as the funniest thing on earth, and the way she described and delivered fight scenes after the other was so easy to read but complicated to bits still. All the kicking and punching said in the most unexpected ways. I also love how she expresses the love of the characters to each other (both the platonic/familial love and romantic ones) as just pure and true.
I feel a lot of love for this series. :)
