Traced Blog Tour [guest post+giveaway]

Hi guys! Today, we have a tour stop for the Traced blog tour. Traced is the first part of the Outlier Chronicles by Megan Squires. And this tour is hosted by Kismet BT.

I am so thrilled to share with you a teaser post from the book. And you can also enter a giveaway below. :)

Tessa can’t sleep. But when your parents are dead and the government directs your path in life, sleep shouldn’t come easily. Lately, Tessa’s fitful nights are growing even more predictable, almost like déjà vu. And she’s beginning to think that something greater is at work—something her society has taken drastic measures to keep hidden. Caught between self-discovery and government conformity, she’ll have to choose either the boy who can help her reveal this new truth or the one that can provide her with the security of familiarity. Tessa’s faced with a weighty decision. And she’s going to need more than a good night’s sleep to make it.

Teaser!

“It wasn’t like this years ago, Tess.” Dad had pulled the metal pail from my hand and poured it over the windshield of Mom’s car. “We used to be able to manage on our own. We used to be able to make decisions for ourselves, like how much water we needed. Things like this were never regulated.” He leaned his head closer to mine, emphasizing his words with his posture and his tone, and as he recalled, his eyes gleamed with remembrance. “The war in the East that happened right before you were born changed all of that. We used to be a democracy, Tess. But those days are long gone.”

I’d loved the way that word sounded. Democracy. The way it rolled off of his tongue—the way it hinted at a freedom my generation has never really known. I’d longed for my dad to tell me his tales of the past, like the year that he’d turned eighteen just in time to vote in the presidential election. Presidents. Elected officials. Those notions seemed like ancient history.

Once the war started, all young men my dad’s age were recruited for the efforts. He never shared war stories with me, though I have his box containing those untold memories tucked away on a shelf in my closet. I’ve just never had the courage to open it. Something about it feels dishonest because I know he avoided those discussions for a reason. I know that war changed everything, and that it changed him.

And I liked his freedom stories so much more.

How’s that for a teaser? :)
