Hi guys! Happy wednesday to everyone! Today, we have a tour stop for the Blaze (a LOVE in the TIME of SUPERVILLAINS) blog tour! This book is by Laurie Boyle Crompton, published by Sourcebooks Fire. And blog tour is hosted by Sourcebooks as well.
As part of my tour stop, you’ll find a very special guest post from Laurie herself as she shares her top TEN villains of ALL time. Ain’t that interesting? :) PLUS plus plus, Sourcebooks is generous and kind enough to offer a copy of Blaze for giveaway (US/Can addresses only). SUPER! So, I hope you’ll enter the giveaway and enjoy the post!
My Top Ten Villains of All Time
by Laurie Boyle Crompton
I think when talking about any type of bad guy it’s important to remember that even the worst villains are heroes in their own minds. People just don’t walk around thinking of themselves as evil. They have a reason for acting the way they do and I like the villains who show that. Magneto who battles the X-men is a good example. The guy really just wants mutants to live in peace with humans. Problem is, he thinks the best way to achieve this is to kick human butt once and for all. This of course leads to evil-seeming behavior such as, oh, say, orchestrating mass murders, but you can see the guy is all for world peace.
Another one of my favorite comic book villains is Mystique. Her power to take on whatever form she chooses is quite a skill and in the comics you can see that she’s not so much evil as she is just selfish. I think my favorite non-evil comic book supervillain has to be Galactus. The guy is all-powerful and he’s absolutely the bad guy in the way he consumes planets and wipes out entire races. Yet he’s not completely evil because, to him we’re just a giant burger with a side of fries. Hey, dude’s gotta eat.
Spiderman seems to attract some of the best and most interesting foes with guys like Doctor Octopus, the Green Goblin, Venom, Kraven the Hunter and Sandman. Of course Spidey is so awesome it may just be that his nemesises (or should that plural be nemesi?) are just amazing by association. Finally, Red Skull is the villain who has always creeped me out the most. This is fairly ironic since I totally adore Ghost Rider and he’s pretty much all skull as well. I guess the flames and Hell Cycle make the exposed skull work. Ghost Rider was originally designed to be a bad guy for Daredevil to fight against but the brilliant folks at Marvel realized he deserved to be the hero of his own comic. Good call, Marvel. And thanks for the perfect example of just how finely drawn the line can be between being a bad guy and becoming a superhero.
About the Book:
Title: Blaze (or Love in the time of Supervillains)
Author: Laurie Boyle Crompton
Publisher: Sourcebooks Fire
Blaze is tired of spending her life on the sidelines, drawing comics and feeling invisible. She's desperate for soccer star Mark to notice her. And when her BFF texts Mark a photo of Blaze in sexy lingerie, it definitely gets his attention. After a hot date in the back of her minivan, Blaze is flying high, but suddenly Mark's feelings seem to have been blasted by a freeze-ray gun, and he dumps her. Blaze gets her revenge by posting a comic strip featuring uber-villain Mark the Shark. Mark then retaliates by posting her "sext" photo, and, overnight, Blaze goes from Super Virgin Girl to Super Slut. That life on the sidelines is looking pretty good right about now..
