To want what you’re not supposed to have…
She is only nineteen.
She is his new stepfather’s daughter.
She is still naïve and innocent due to spending the last three years taking care of her sick mother.
But for twenty-four year old Rush Finlay, she is the only thing that has ever been off limits. His famous father’s guilt money, his mother’s desperation to win his love, and his charm are the three reasons he has never been told no.
Blaire Wynn left her small farmhouse in Alabama, after her mother passed away, to move in with her father and his new wife in their sprawling beach house along the Florida gulf coast. She isn’t prepared for the lifestyle change and she knows she’ll never fit into this world. Then there is her sexy stepbrother who her father leaves her with for the summer while he runs off to Paris with his wife. Rush is as spoiled as he is gorgeous. He is also getting under her skin. She knows he is anything but good for her and that he’ll never be faithful to anyone. He is jaded and has secrets Blaire knows she may never uncover but even knowing all of that…
Blaire just may have fallen too far.
My Thoughts:
That was heartbreaking.
More, please. :)
This. It's straightforward, heartbreaking and very intense, both emotionally and physically. It was no secret that there was a secret Rush was hiding from Blaire since the beginning, and that secret has been gnawing at me since then. I didn't even try to comprehend and guess with the clues left here and there. And I was glad I did not try because it was something I couldn't have guessed.
I like the directness of the story, thoguh I'm sad there were no toe-dipping, butterflies-in-my-stomach scenes, well if there was even one, I don't remember it. But, it doesn't equate that the story is. NOt good, because it was, and I enjoyed it.
Every Blaire and Rush interactions in the first half of the story was scarce but each of them were intense and meaningful. Little gestures and little conversations but they were so full of facts. I did not even realize when they mutually agreed to ignore the "rules" Rush made. The town gossip, social ranking differences, etc, everything was complicated and tangled in a web, i liked it.
The ending was very very heavily emotional, I haven't cried that hard since A Long Long Sleep. I was surprised by the tears I shed, they were a lot. I was crying for Blaire. Her experiences toughened her instead of pulling her down. I admire her tenacity to life. Heck, I admire her tough chick attitude. Her twin sister dying, her father leaving two weeks after that, then her mom getting sick and dying. And for her to take care of everything. Her life was harsh but she kept on. Then the truth behind the things that happened before came out, and it was really too much. She was alone. And it's painful. Meanwhile, Rush falling in love was unexpected. I mean I knew the guy in every love story eventually falls for the girl, duh! But the depth of his fall for Blaire was a little overwhelming. :)
I loved the story but I don't know if I can still read it again, because of the painful stuffs in it. The story is raw, and real and just freaking good.
“Who do you have?” he asked in a tortured voice.
“I have me.”
-so saad!
Wow! That kiss is something else...
