When 23-year-old Maya got herself a one-way ticket to Japan, she had only one thought in mind: Gemini. Never mind her family’s disapproval, the low-paying job she had just accepted, the cramped apartment she was going to live in, all the bowls of instant ramen she would subsist on; she had to meet her favorite band, see them play live. Most of all, she wanted to see him. The lead guitarist. Shin.
Three months later, she is penniless, still friendless, and haunted by the comforts of home. Then she meets him, swathed in the smoke of his menthol Luckies, thrumming an imaginary guitar. In the empty parking lot of a little club in Shibuya—this is where the aftermath of a dream begins.
My Thoughts:
A cute, sappy and sweet novel about finally experiencing your dreams and afraid of the precariousness of the very situation.
I liked Mia's boldness and independency, adored her other characteristics even. However, when it comes to relationships, especially her rel'n with Shin, her cowardness and vulnerability irritates me. I always muttered that she should just embrace her drems and just trust. Because failures happen no matter what we do. Pain will always be part of life, and all we can do is enjoy it and be happy with what we have. Worrying is such a killer sometimes..well most of the time. I adored Shin's bracity and strong-willed character. Choosing to be brave enough to accept the impossibilities and perhaps it can be called magic.
Overall, though there were moments of absolute sappyness (there’s no such word, anyhoo) and I felt the writing needs more editing and polishing because it lacks fluidity and something I can’t put my finger on.. But I liked the chapter titles, and the story is cute enough I can't resist it.
