My Thoughts:

Wow. That ending was such a cliffhanger. But nevertheless, the novel is good and I enjoyed reading it. There is so much potential to it, with a plot and twist I had not anticipated. But I think it needs more editing to polish it off.

I think the story was told too straightforward and direct to the point. I like Allie because she stands up for herself. I still can't get over how Levi tricked him. If it were done to me, I son't know how I handled the situation. Anyway, I like how the novel surprised me. It was truly entertaining and soemthing you couldn't put down. The story held me captive and I want to read the next one already. There's still a lot of things not talked about, more story that's waiting to be told.

I believe the title "Flight" suits it very well.

Alyssa Rose Ivy lives in North Carolina with her husband and two young children. Although raised in the New York area, she fell in love with the South after moving to New Orleans for college. After years as a perpetual student, she turned back to her creative side and decided to write.

Hi Alyssa! Welcome to Coffee books and me.

Hi Jenna, thanks for having me! 

Introduce yourself and your book in 3 sentences or less.

I’m Alyssa, and I’m a Young Adult/ New Adult author. Flight is a college age paranormal romance set in New Orleans, and it is the first book in the Crescent Chronicles. 

So, how long have you been writing? Did you always have that inclination to writing?

I’ve been writing for as long as I can remember, I was definitely that kid that was always writing down stories in notebooks. I published my first novel in 2011.  

How did you come up with the title "flight"?

Flight has two meanings. It refers to Allie’s (the MC) flight from her usual life. You’ll have to read the book to discover the other meaning.  

Who designed the covers?

The cover was designed by Claudia of Phatpuppy Art. 

What was the hardest part of writing your book?

The hardest part of writing Flight was deciding what about New Orleans to include. New Orleans is a city I love and it holds tons of memories for me, so I had to make myself hold back a lot of cool and unique New Orleans locations for later books.  

Any characters in the book we should look forwards to reading to?

I think readers will really like Allie. She’s a fun girl, but there’s a lot more to her then meets the eye. Levi can be infuriating, but there is something undeniably attractive about him. There are also a bunch of fun and memorable secondary characters. I have a feeling Hailey will be a favorite. 

I'm curious, what books have most influenced your life most?

My all time favorite book is Moby Dick. I’ve lost track of how many times I’ve read it. I have always been fascinated with how Melville was able to portray obsession so perfectly. I was also really influenced by the Hobbit, it was the first book I remember reading that made me want to write. 

What book are you reading now?

I just finished Blood Debt by Nancy Straight. 

What are your current or upcoming projects?

I’ll be releasing a New Adult contemporary romance called Derailed this fall. The next book in the Crescent Chronicles, Focus, will be out this winter. I’ll also be releasing the final Afterglow Trilogy book, Enduring Light, this spring.
