Book Review: Beautiful Disaster by Jamie McGuire

Title: Beautiful Disaster
Author: Jamie McGuire
Publisher: Simon & Schuster UK
Expected Publication: August 10, 2012
Source: netgalley
The new Abby Abernathy is a good girl. She doesn’t drink or swear, and she has the appropriate percentage of cardigans in her wardrobe. Abby believes she has enough distance between her and the darkness of her past, but when she arrives at college with her best friend, her path to a new beginning is quickly challenged by Eastern University's Walking One-Night Stand. Travis Maddox, lean, cut, and covered in tattoos, is exactly what Abby needs—and wants—to avoid. He spends his nights winning money in a floating fight ring, and his days as the ultimate college campus charmer. Intrigued by Abby’s resistance to his appeal, Travis tricks her into his daily life with a simple bet. If he loses, he must remain abstinent for a month. If Abby loses, she must live in Travis’s apartment for the same amount of time. Either way, Travis has no idea that he has met his match.

My Thoughts:

I actually don't remember requesting this book from netgalley. That's why I was really surprised to see that I was approved to view it. Anyhoo, I was intrigued with the plot that I read it even before the books I had lined up before it. Hehe.

What a beautiful disaster indeed! Travis and Abby's love story is one heck of a roller coaster ride. Their relationship feels real- because I'm sure it happens in real life, simply because it's not perfect, and that's why I love it. I don't want to spoil a lot to you guys, but I'll say this. Their story captivated me so much that I couldn't put it down. Each of rh characters put so much value into their roles. Travis has that bad look image while Abby is the good girl with some past. Both met and since then something was growing inside their hearts, what's realistic is it bloomed slowly. I love America and Abby's friendship (they ar bffs). They are fiercely loyal and supportive of each other, being each other's buddysnd conscience.

The story is sweet but also bitter. Like life in general. Taking a leap of faith, falling in love, keeping faith, learning to trust, sacrifices made, logical reasoning, stupid decisions, and a lot of other rambles. Many times my heart swelled with happiness and all sorts of flips. Life-altering decisions and life-long commitments. It's amazing how one person can change you. Beautiful Disaster is a story of love (mostly) and friendship, and basically a disaster waiting to happen unless it works out...

  1. I'm glad you liked it. I've read some mixed reviews. I'll hopefully get around to reading my copy soon too.

  2. I got this book from NetGalley, too, but I've been putting it off, even though it's been calling me to read it, because of other books. Now it's getting harder to resist the urge.

  3. Nicely said! My blog buddy reviewed it a while back and she got so into it too. I'm reading this this week, maybe it'll help me with my funk.

  5. Thanks for the comments! And Maria, yes, I did notice that, and I think that's one of the reasons why they got back together in the end (oops, spoiler). It was a little irritating at some point. Good for Abby though because she held her own when they broke up.
