One choice can transform you—or it can destroy you. But every choice has consequences, and as unrest surges in the factions all around her, Tris Prior must continue trying to save those she loves—and herself—while grappling with haunting questions of grief and forgiveness, identity and loyalty, politics and love.
Tris's initiation day should have been marked by celebration and victory with her chosen faction; instead, the day ended with unspeakable horrors. War now looms as conflict between the factions and their ideologies grows. And in times of war, sides must be chosen, secrets will emerge, and choices will become even more irrevocable—and even more powerful. Transformed by her own decisions but also by haunting grief and guilt, radical new discoveries, and shifting relationships, Tris must fully embrace her Divergence, even if she does not know what she may lose by doing so.
My Thoughts:
I refused to read the 5star rating-reviews of the readers who have read Insurgent before me, because Of three things. One, I might expect a lot from the book and might be disappointed in the end. Two, i might get biased with my review after reading it. And lastly, I really don't mind spoilers, except for the book series tha I love. That goes to prove that I'm writing this review from a clean slate.
Talking about clean slates, I have to admit I struggled a bit with reading the book because I didn't reread Divergent. Apart from Tris and Four, I basically forgot everyone's names. Thankfully I still remembered the plot.
Onto the book. I was surprised to everything that happened but I still loved it. I love the character developments that evolved especially Tris' part. She was a rumble of mixed emotions, and I don't blame her. Part of me loving dystopian books is I like reading about the character's emotions and knowing it from their perspectives. In this case, Tris has been through a lot, and the traumas she experienced-from her mom and Will dying- no wonder she has trouble with holding guns. And that was just a piece of what she's been through. If I admired her in Divergemt, I admired her more in Insurgent. She demonstrated great strength from enduring what she endured, honesty for not hiding her emotions and expressing them and not being ashamed to show it, and intelligence in how she analyzed things especially her clearheadedness as they happen while there's fight. All those traits might make her admirable but there are also some stuffs I hated about her-her low regard of her life at one phase in the book. This is where my love for Four's character looms up again. He is known as being so tough and all that, but when it comes to Tris, he became not only that stronghold for her, but he proudly and publicly shows his love for her. The vulnerability he showed didn't show weakness, it was adorable.
The book was thrilling and unstoppable. These are the kind of books that I don't regret buying because they weigh something. A great story that affects me not just emotionally but it also makes me think. In Insurgent, my long lost question was answered, why Chicago?nwahat happened to the rest of the world?..
If Divergent caught you, Insurgent will surely take you by the storm. While Divergent focused on building the story's foundation, Insurgent showed that being an insurgent is not all bad, because as Johanna said "sometimes the people you oppress become mightier than you would like".
