Book Review: Spellcaster by Cara Lynn Shultz

Spellcaster (Spellbound, #2)Spellcaster by Cara Lynn Shultz

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Finding your eternal soulmate - easy.

Stopping a true-love-hungry evil - not so much…

After breaking a centuries-old romantic curse, Emma Connor is (almost) glad to get back to normal problems. Although...it's not easy dealing with the jealous cliques and gossip that rule her exclusive Upper East Side prep, even for a sixteen-year-old newbie witch. Having the most-wanted boy in school as her eternal soul mate sure helps ease the pain-especially since wealthy, rocker-hot Brendan Salinger is very good at staying irresistibly close....

But something dark and hungry is using Emma and Brendan's deepest fears to reveal damaging
secrets and destroy their trust in each other. And Emma's crash course in über-spells may not be enough to keep them safe…or to stop an inhuman force bent on making their unsuspected power its own

My Thoughts:
The easy-going read, simple yet complicated plots, and witty lines of the characters of the novel kept me glued pretty much into finishing the book quickly.

I honestly was shocked that Spellbound had a sequel, because it could've been perfect as a stand alone. Seriously. But! I don't mind reading more of Emma and Brendan. :) Spellcaster brought out more of Emma's Wiccan side, and this is where the main juice of the story comes from. Four months after Spellbound, one obsessed and crazy girl from Brendan's past (totally unrequited) turns out to be Angelique's old friend who is also a witch. And now she aims to do an old ritual that will make her powerful. All she needs is true love's blood. Who better to pick than the famous couple Brendan&Emma, and sweet revenge is sweeter this time.

I love love Cara's writing! Well, there are times that it feels forced, but later on I adapt fairly well and enjoy it's wittiness and lightness. Emma's stronger, braver, and bolder. Brendan, on the other hand is still handsome as ever, and well he showed how love transformed him, and this makes him more attractive, really. Angelique showed how a great friend she is, and I really love reading the two chapters where she narrated it. She's so smart and just plain funny. The seriousness of the situations they are in is concealed by the way they handled them, thus you can't feel a dark ambience while reading this paranormal novel. It's so mixed up with the contemporary world that's why it feels like a light read. The sappiness of Emma&Brendan's relationship moved up to another level. Sometimes it's very sweet and touching, at other times it's..blech, as in too corny, haha. But I love every moment they have because it's easy and natural.

I truly enjoyed reading Spellcaster and I personally think it had a strong plot and twists. :) way to go! Woohoo! Now, i'm off to find my own Brandon Salinger! Lol.
