The undead can really screw up your senior year ...
Marrying a vampire definitely doesn’t fit into Jessica Packwood’s senior year “get-a-life” plan. But then a bizarre (and incredibly hot) new exchange student named Lucius Vladescu shows up, claiming that Jessica is a Romanian vampire princess by birth—and he’s her long-lost fiancé. Armed with newfound confidence and a copy of Growing Up Undead: A Teen Vampire’s Guide to Dating, Health, and Emotions, Jessica makes a dramatic transition from average American teenager to glam European vampire princess. But when a devious cheerleader sets her sights on Lucius, Jess finds herself fighting to win back her wayward prince, stop a global vampire war—and save Lucius’s soul from eternal destruction.
My Thoughts:
The title of the book may sound like a Sophie Kinsella-ish & Meg Cabot-ish book, but it’s not, it’s Beth Fantaskey. And she merges, if I may say perfectly, the YA Contemporary and the Paranormal stuffs. I appreciate that the vampires in this book stuck in the original Romanian blah2x vampire society, so it gives off a more natural and real.
Jessica, is just your normal American teen living in Pennsylvania, tending their barn, and is excited to be on her senior year with a potential love life blooming in with Jake. But I hate to burst your bubble Jess, because you are in fact a vampire princess, the last line of the Dragomirs royalty, and oh. you are already betrothed to the other vampire royalty, Lucius Vladescu, with your joining, peace will be maintained between the vamps. No pressure there.
When Jessica found all of this, what do you expect? of course, an in-denial, rebellious teenager, with all the famous teen angst booming out of her. Well not really all of that since she’s a nice girl, but she’s very much set on declining the handsome and brooding Lucius. Also, this math-driven, rational thinking girl grew up to believing in science and everything must have an explanation. So, to make her believe in the existence of vampires will sure take some convincing.
In this YA paranormal novel, we will fall in love, be entertained, and will read in horror as the turn of events will leave us all gaping and shocked, and at the end hopeful for all things to finally be okay, and I can’t help but shout (to no one in particular) “just give them their happy ending already!”. And I will now read the next one:) Beth Fantaskey, you sure are fantastic! :)
