The Hematoi descend from the unions of gods and mortals, and the children of two Hematoi-pure-bloods-have godlike powers. Children of Hematoi and mortals-well, not so much. Half-bloods only have two options: become trained Sentinels who hunt and kill daimons or become servants in the homes of the pures.Seventeen-year-old Alexandria would rather risk her life fighting than waste it scrubbing toilets, but she may end up slumming it anyway. There are several rules that students at the Covenant must follow. Alex has problems with them all, but especially rule #1:Relationships between pures and halfs are forbidden.Unfortunately, she's crushing hard on the totally hot pure-blood Aiden. But falling for Aiden isn't her biggest problem--staying alive long enough to graduate the Covenant and become a Sentinel is. If she fails in her duty, she faces a future worse than death or slavery: being turned into a daimon, and being hunted by Aiden. And that would kind of suck.
I haven’t read any serious book for some time now, and reading Half-Blood was a perfect come back! Talk about EPICNESS!
For the first half of the book, it did really mimic and had a lot of similarities with Vampire Academy, except this one’s not mixed up with Vamps but with the blood of gods. It has every paranormal romance book we all like and love. The story’s plot is really great, for one, and that’s very important for every series. If the main story itself lacks power and that “mph!”, it won’t last to be an epic series. There’s the action, and when I’ve read the first few pages, I’m already thrown right into the action, which I really really loved. The forbidden romance, and the “should-be” romance. Gosh, as early as now, I’m already torn between two guys. (and the other one is not even an official participant in the love triangle, but I would like to think that he’s in it,haha, there I go again, going for the wrong guys...). Family problems is so in this book. It’s all of it mixed together. I even cried at the end of the book. It has an emotional touch in it too. The characters. Alex is not hard to love, we can relate to her stubborness and easily understand why she’s like that. I actually related well with her since my dad just died few months ago, and she lost her mom too. It’s even more painful for her because she’s all she has, and I still have my mom and sister and cousins and okay, so we’re a really big family...So, anyway, I love the fact that I can relate so much with her. And in this book, she’s grown so much, I can’t wait to see more of the change we’ll see in her. Let’s go over to the guys section. haha. Well, I’m not really in love with Aiden, but he’s hot and sincere and just when you think a guy that hot and aloof can’t be fun, but he is and I’m surprised on the amount of emotion he showed over here. The bestfriend, Caleb, is such a great friend, I want him to be my bff too! (and no, he’s totally not in on the love triangle, haha). Seth. Oh gosh, I don’t know why he’s the one I like and not Aiden. I guess he has that kickass bad boy image I love. You have to READ on guys so you’ll know what I’m talking about. Even the “villains” and “soon-to-be-villains” and “i-think-he’s-really-mean-but-I-can-see-he’s-not-evil” people will make you like the book. You won’t regret reading this I promise you! I can’t even think of anymore things to say just that it’s really great. I totally am in love with the story! I can’t get enough and I want to read the next one already! Surprisingly, I’m not at all frustrated with how the story went, in fact I’m loving where everything is going. Jennifer Armentrout is another brilliant writer to be added on my favorite author list! :)
