When you can’t trust yourself, who can you believe?
Everything about Anna’s life is a secret. Her father works for the Branch at the helm of its latest project: monitoring and administering treatments to the four genetically altered boys in the lab below their farmhouse. There’s Nick, Cas, Trev . . . and Sam, who’s stolen Anna’s heart. When the Branch decides it’s time to take the boys, Sam stages an escape, killing the agents sent to retrieve them.
Anna is torn between following Sam or staying behind in the safety of her everyday life. But her father pushes her to flee, making Sam promise to keep her away from the Branch, at all costs. There’s just one problem. Sam and the boys don’t remember anything before living in the lab—not even their true identities.
Now on the run, Anna soon discovers that she and Sam are connected in more ways than either of them expected. And if they’re both going to survive, they must piece together the clues of their past before the Branch catches up to them and steals it all away.

My Thoughts:

I'm an adrenaline junkie when it comes to reading books, and boy was my addiction filled by Altered! It's action-packed with a weighty story and a healthy dose of side romance in the background.

The plot is so good, it's twists will twist you. They'll come to you unexpectedly and it was just soooo good. There are so many good things in this book that'll make you addicted to it. First, boys. There are four gorgeous hot boys, who are "lab experiments". I don't mind working in that lab if what I'll see everyday are thos pretty boys, haha. Anna is ine lucky girl! Seriously though, the second reason is the plot, the story. I was never much a fan of scifi when I was a kid, but for the past few years, since trying them out, I saw the charm scifis exudes. It's not just about the "science" in the story, but the characters the novel has plus the relationships built on it. And don't forget the mind-numbing ridiculous twists! I was so shocked by the revelation I just scoffed in response. The links between the mysterious past and the complicated present. The clues. The hunt. It was a never-ending puzzle the boys and Anna had to solve. I was always giddy for more.

Altered has everything I like and love about YA scifis. Great story. Great characters. Great writing. And it has that certain ingredient that made it such a fastread. In short, it will hold your interest until the last page. Never a dull moment. Jennifer Rush, you are one fantastic writer!

Btw, the book can in itself be a standalone, but the thought that it's a series excites me. :)
