Melanie Stryder refuses to fade away. The earth has been invaded by a species that take over the minds of human hosts while leaving their bodies intact. Wanderer, the invading "soul" who has been given Melanie's body, didn't expect to find its former tenant refusing to relinquish possession of her mind.
As Melanie fills Wanderer's thoughts with visions of Jared, a human who still lives in hiding, Wanderer begins to yearn for a man she's never met. Reluctant allies, Wanderer and Melanie set off to search for the man they both love.
Featuring one of the most unusual love triangles in literature, THE HOST is a riveting and unforgettable novel about the persistence of love and the essence of what it means to be human.
My Thoughts:
It's actually my first time reading the Host, 4 years after its publication. And only because there was a movie for it and Max Irons wasmthere. Lol. So superficial! But anyway! I think Stephenie Meyer has a hand in scifi/dystopian books too. Though I have to say the names of the other planets was too childish and unusual from the common names planets have.
It's a very unique story, though the 2 souls living in one is not foreign to me. Wanda, the main character is the kindest and noblest fictional character I've ever read. My gosh, she was just so selfless and kind, I really think few people exist like her. I do hope there'll be more though. Haha. The story centers around the human survivors of the Earth, which is taken over by "aliens" who are in actuality are so tiny and damn it's just so ironic. Everything was in this story. I like how the story was told in Wanda's POV, and the flashbacks of Melanie's life was interesting, and knowing and learning more about Melanie's character was very interesting since I can only get a glimpse of her when Wanda and her talk, she's part of the main characters but she's sort of in the background. The story is about hope and love, weird I know, how those components can be found as a main message in a scifi book. It's also about survivability and how much humanity can fight back, and its not just the "how" part but also the "why" part.
There are rumors of there being a second book and I really think there is cause come on, this story needs a finality. And I think the movie is doing well, so I hope there's a second one :)

My reason was the movie, too! Haha. I love Saoirse and due to my principle of not watching the movie without reading the book, I picked this up despite my reluctance. Fortunately, I enjoyed it. And as much as I love Max Irons, I rooted for Ian in the book. :) Glad you enjoyed it!
