In New York City, 1897, life has never been more thrilling - or dangerous.
Sixteen-year-old Finley Jayne and her "straynge band of mysfits" have journeyed from London to America to rescue their friend Jasper, hauled off by bounty hunters. But Jasper is in the clutches of a devious former friend demanding a trade-the dangerous device Jasper stole from him...for the life of the girl Jasper loves.
One false move from Jasper and the strange clockwork collar around Mei's neck tightens. And tightens.

My Thoughts:

I thought this book was going to make me read it for days! Because, you know, 400+ pages and all. But boy was I wrong! Just read it in one day! Wow. The novel just had this ingredient and character that has the ability to make you read it continuously. Maybe it's the story, maybe it's the flow, maybe it's the writing, or just everything about it all in all.

I have something to confess though. Somehow, when I started reading this, I forgot it was the second in the steampubk series and I honestly haven't read the first one. One page in and I figured out it was the second book. For one, Finley, one of the MC was narrating what they've already experienced from the past, and that's what it took! But! You don't have to read the first to be able to read the second though because the author provided facts and summary from the last book. However, it would have been better if I was able to read the first one, so I'll know in-depth why each character feels that way. History and all that.

So, the Girl in the Clockwork Collar is the second inthe Steampunk series by Kady Cross. There's just something curious about techy machineries available in the 19th and 20th century, that are somehow advanced but still way behind our current technologies. It's fascinating. Plus, hullo! 19th century New York! That just made me giddier. The subtle romance is also amusing. Barely there but it's there. It's almost like a teaser everytime, and I like it that ways in this kind of YA novels. The plot was good. Reading from three different POVs was enough and the delivery of the story in the omniscient way did not withhold any excitement the book brought to me.

If you ask me if I'll read the next and last book, my answer would be YES.

  1. I adore this series although I liked book 1 first. This had me thirsting for Mei's blood. I want to reach out and strangle her myself
