Blog tour: Shadows from the Past by Ashley Dawn

“…It is the price you pay for choosing to be a cop. Your brother’s life…”

Those words haunt her dreams, and her waking moments. LAPD officer, Aurora Kavvan cannot rest until she finds her brothers killer. Digging into the past always brings back unpleasant things: memories, guilt…the hit man. Now she is in a race against time to find the murderer before he finds her.

“Kill her. I don’t care how, and I don’t care where, but I want her dead now!”

Someone was trying to kill his dead partner’s sister. FBI agent, Jordan Reiley will stop at nothing to protect the woman he loves. Even if it means going against her wishes; putting himself between her and the man who murdered her brother.

Will God keep them alive long enough for them to find the truth?

AUTHOR INTERVIEW!

Hi Ashley! Welcome to Coffee, Books and Me! I’m so glad to be part of your blog tour for your book “Shadows from the Past”.

Hi Jenna!  Thank you so much for having me!

Can you tell us something about this book?

Shadow From the Past, is the first book in what became a series.  Aurora has been trying to track down her brother's killer and has found nothing but dead ends for the past six years.  Suddenly, Aurora finds herself being pursued by a killer and is saved by none other than Jordan Reiley.  Jordan is Aurora's ex-fiance and her brothers' former partner.  He has never stopped loving Aurora.  His decision to protect her may not be something she is happy with but he is determined he won't lose her again!

So how did you decide to write a novel? Any inspiration/story behind it?

It all started from a dream I had.  I just felt that I had to write it down.  The first scene in the book was a very real dream that I had and it just evolved from there.  I'm sure it was a series of 'daydreams' that kept it going.  The characters became real to me and I used family members to help supply different personalities :)

I
n writing, do you strictly set a certain amount of time to write each day? Or a word count goal? How do you measure if your day was a successful writing day?

Since I have a full time job and 2 kids, it is difficult to have a daily writing routine because something ALWAYS interrupts it.  I try to write in the late evenings and on weekends.  I don't have a specific goal in words or time, but what makes me feel successful is if my characters have achieved something.  If they haven't moved forward at all, I usually scrap whatever I've written and start again.  If the story isn't moving from my point of view, I can imagine what anyone reading it would think!

Do you also love to read novels? In the average, how long can you finish one?

I adore books!  Reading is my favorite pasttime.  I usually take a couple days to finish a book, depending on size.  I read pretty much any type of book, within reason, and some of 400+ page books do take me a bit longer!

Any particular genre that has drawn you to it and why?

I would have to say I love reading what I write.  You can't do any better than a Christian Romantic Suspense.  It combines my favorite elements, romance and suspense mixed with faith...it is wonderful!

What do you think makes a great story?

Great characters.  The plot is a BIG part of it, but if your characters aren't relateable then, the plot falls flat because no one cares really what happens.  If they relate to the characters then their emotions are involved and they are invested in what happens to these characters they've come to care about.

Do you read while writing or steer clear until you are in between novels? Many authors fear undue influence, do you have these fears or certain authors you would love to be able to write in the same style as?

I try not to read at all when I plan to write.  I read all different types of books so if I feel I just HAVE to have something to read like during the day or while the kids are napping, I go for something completely different than what I write, like Science Fiction.  I love Dee Henderson, Lynette Eason, Irene Hannon...I try to write in this style but these women are amazing authors!

Any favorite character from your book which you can most relate yourself with?

Aurora.  She is a spunky, spicy woman with an attitude.  She reminds me of EVERY female in my family and I must admit that I see a bit of myself in there too.  I love the loyalty she has to her 'family' and understand her feeling of responsibility.

Night owl or Early Bird?

Absolutely Night Owl!  It is the only time my house is quiet and I can focus on things for me.  Otherwise, there are kids, husband, dishes, laundry...the list is endless!  About 1 a.m. is just perfect for writing :)

So Ashley, do you have anything specific that you want to say to our readers and your future readers? Any future projects?

Thank you for taking the time to read a bit about me :)  I hope you all enjoy my books and would love to hear your thoughts anytime!
I'm currently working on a new book that isn't a part of my series.  It is (currently titled) 'Right to Remain'.  Pierce is an attorney and sees Lisa as the one who got away.  Lisa is a nurse and is raising her niece Kymm.  When a serial killer starts murdering young girls in the area, Lisa fears for her niece and when circumstances lead to the conclusion he may be targeting Kymm, she turns to Pierce for help.  Now they have to keep Kymm safe and maybe just maybe, they will get a second chance at love.

Thanks for your time for dropping by Ashley!

Thank you Jenna :)
